Another junkie bites the dust. I remember their hay day back in 1991. Slightly before NIrvana's rise in 1992. Columbia recording artists? They seemed very label owned. Later in 1994 I moved up to Tacoma Washington where Cantrell was from. You could get a vibe of his past presence at some of the older music stores. As if he had passed through them in his early days. Then by 1996 I bought their new release in Berkeley. It amounted to Cantrell trying to prop the band up in spite of the singer practically nodding out during performances. It was a bit of a disappointment. It wasn't long before the singer had died. When I got back to Arizona in 1997 I ran into a kid from high school who said he had sold heroin to the singer as part of his job working for the mob. He managed to get out of that line of work shortly thereafter. That drug always seems to be the ruin of the musicians that use it.
